Toothaches can be a real pain. If you have a toothache, you probably have some questions, including how to relieve the throbbing discomfort. We would like to help you by offering some information on how to handle toothaches.
Unfortunately, there are many potential causes for a toothache. Some common reasons are:
If you have a food particle stuck in your teeth or gums, you can use a single-filament dental floss to gently remove the offending particle. NEVER use pointed instruments–including wooden toothpicks–to try and remove food pieces from in between teeth. You can also try swishing with salt water to temporarily reduce the discomfort and possibly dislodge the food.
For the more serious issues on the list–a cavity, gum infection, or an abscessed or cracked tooth–visit your dentist as soon as possible for treatment. Dr. Kaveen can help you with the proper tools and technology available at Portland Dental in order to relieve the discomfort. If you suspect a sinus infection is causing your pain, you should visit your physician.
