Stay on Top of Your Dental Health with State-Of-The-Art Dental Technology

At Portland Dental, we want to stay on top of the industry’s most innovative technology to deliver fast, comfortable, and accurate treatments. Drs. Kaveendra T. Ranasinghe and Cameron Schwab of Portland, Oregon, complement our personalized and caring approach to dentistry with cutting-edge technology to deliver the highest quality care to our patients.

Digital X-rays

Digital radiographs are a valuable tool in dentistry for detecting dental problems concealed beneath the gum line. While physical and visual examinations can identify visible signs of gum disease, cavities, decay, and other abnormalities, they have limitations. Digital X-rays are crucial in diagnosing hidden (interproximal) cavities, cysts, bone loss, impacted wisdom teeth, and tooth infections that can’t be spotted with the naked eye.

Unlike traditional X-rays, digital images are clear and detailed, and they don’t require harsh chemicals and much time to process. In fact, digital radiographs deliver instant images for accelerated diagnostics. That’s not all about digital X-rays. These X-rays emit 80-90% less radiation than traditional X-rays, making them safer.

Digital intraoral camera

Years ago, when the dentist found anomalies in your mouth, you had to take their word for it. Modern dental offices like Portland Dental use a tiny, camera-tipped wand called iCam to take detailed photos of the inside of your mouth. These photos are projected on a chairside screen, enabling your dentist to show you what they see. This interactive approach increases your compliance and commitment to the proposed treatment.

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)

We use the CBCT system to generate 3D images of your oral and maxillofacial structures. This device rotates around the patient, capturing data using a cone-shaped X-ray beam. We can use this data to render 3D images of your teeth, jaws, mouth, neck, throat, and other structures. We use the CBCT system in various clinical applications, including planning your dental implants, bone grafting, and identifying and extracting wisdom teeth.

Laser dentistry

Dental lasers are considered one of the most innovative dental tools of our time. Dental lasers use a focused beam of light energy to interact with oral tissues, providing precise and targeted treatment.

Dr. Ranasinghe and the team use dental lasers to treat periodontal disease. A dental laser removes the diseased tissue and eliminates bacteria to promote the healing and regeneration of healthy tissue. Unlike traditional gum surgery, dental lasers are precise, minimize bleeding, and often result in less postoperative discomfort. Furthermore, we can complete the procedure in one to two visits.

Digital 3D Scanners

No patient looks forward to gagging on a slab of acrylic goo. Soon, our office will introduce digital scanners to take impressions of the inside of your mouth. Unlike casts, digital scanners are patient-friendly, faster, and more accurate. The many uses of digital scanners include dental diagnostics, fabricating precise prosthetic devices, and guiding surgical operations.

iTero Intraoral Scanner

The iTero intraoral scanner improves our ability to diagnose and plan treatment. This advanced, specialized scanner provides unmatched digital imaging and distinct benefits over other imaging systems.

The iTero intraoral scanner:

  • Is more comfortable than traditional dental impressions. Using a handheld wand, we can comfortably take digital images of your mouth, which can be used for dental treatments, including Invisalign
  • Does not rely on radiation when taking images. Instead, iTero utilizes NIRI (near-infrared imaging) using a specialized camera that can take pictures of the inside of the tooth so that the internal structure can be viewed when looking for structural damage or internal decay
  • Uses the latest in imaging technology to create a single, comprehensive scan of your mouth
