• Sometime before your procedure, Dr. Ranasinghe will schedule a dental cleaning to eliminate plaque and tartar from your teeth so you can start your whitening treatment with a clean mouth.
• We’ll also review a tooth shade color chart together to decide how much lighter you’d like your teeth to be without compromising your smile’s natural appearance.
• On the day of your whitening treatment, we’ll prepare your teeth by polishing them lightly to remove any remaining plaque after your cleaning.
• A barrier is then placed along the gum line to protect the gums, tongue, and cheeks from the whitening agents.
• Depending on your chosen whitening system, we’ll apply the respective whitening agent to your teeth and proceed with the treatment steps. Opalescence whitening gels are chemically activated to eliminate deeply ingrained stains and brighten your smile. We’ll apply the gel to your teeth two or three times at 20-minute intervals to get optimal results. With ZOOM whitening agents, we’ll activate the whitening gel using a laser lamp, repeating the process two or three times at 15-minute intervals.
• After your treatment, you’ll rinse your mouth to remove the excess whitening agent. We can also apply fluoride to your teeth to minimize post-whitening sensitivity.
