When your teeth are crooked or don’t align correctly, it can make you self-conscious. At Portland Dental, Drs. Kaveendra Ranasinghe and Cameron Schwab can correct the problem using Invisalign teeth straightening aligners. During your initial visit, they will examine your mouth and calculate how much change will be needed to straighten your teeth to a more natural position. Once the assessment is complete, you can discuss whether or not the Invisalign process is appropriate for you.
First, we take impressions of your teeth and create digital models of your mouth. These computer-generated models are then used to design the treatment plan. Once the measurements are calculated, your dentist can determine how many trays will be required to complete the process.
Once the dental impressions are received, Invisalign begins custom designing the aligner trays. After finalizing all the specifications, the order is placed to create the Invisalign teeth straightening trays. These trays are crafted from durable plastic and designed to snap into place effortlessly. Additionally, they are easy to remove when necessary and do not harm your teeth.
When the trays are ready, your dentist will ask you to come into the office to try on the first tray. Once the first tray is in place, your dentist will ensure it fits securely and won’t shift or slide out of place. This first tray is crucial for a successful alignment process. After the first one, each aligner must be worn for around two weeks.
When you receive your Invisalign aligner trays, your dentist will provide instructions on how to use and maintain them correctly. You’ll have the flexibility to remove the aligners for eating, brushing, and flossing your teeth, allowing you to eat and perform your dental care routine. Also, ensure you visit your dentist for a check-up as instructed. This is crucial for catching and addressing any potential issues.
The duration of Invisalign treatment varies from three months to 18 months. Minor corrections, such as slight crowding, may yield fast results and can be expected to take less time. However, more complex bite problems could extend the treatment period beyond 12 months.
Your dentist might suggest wearing a retainer at night to prevent your teeth from shifting.
